The Scott Mills Breakfast Show – Who’s Who Behind the Scenes

The Scott Mills Breakfast Show – Who’s Who Behind the Scenes

Even though Scott often names his team on-air in passing, the full picture of who actually builds the Radio 2 Breakfast Show is rarely laid out anywhere. Based on what’s known publicly, here’s a rundown of the key people shaping the show every morning.

🎛️ Patrick Thomas – Producer

Patrick is one of the show’s main producers and has openly talked about being part of the launch team. In fact, he revealed that the very early stages of building the Radio 2 Breakfast Show happened “in a literal BBC cupboard” with colleague Ben Stones, starting with nothing but a blank sheet of paper. He’s heavily involved in shaping content, tone, and running the production backbone of the programme.

🎛️ Ben Stones – Producer

Ben is another key producer on the show, with a long BBC track record in station sound and creative production.

Career Highlights

  • Former Lead Producer for station sound across Radio 1, 1Xtra, Radio 2 and 6Music in 2012.

  • Joined BBC Radio 2 as an Assistant Producer in 2013.

  • Named in The Radio Academy’s 30 Under 30 in 2014, describing the accolade as an “unbelievable” recognition after a huge year.

  • Worked across big projects including:

    • Creating the Radio 2 Eurovision station sound package

    • Producing imaging and trails for the first 6 Music Festival

    • Much more across Radio 2 and 6 Music

  • Started at BBC Radio Leicester as a Broadcast Assistant from 2012–2013.

Ben is known for his creative edge, his history with digital imaging, and for helping shape the identity and sound of Scott’s show.

🎚️ Emilio Porto – Assistant Producer

Behind the scenes Emilio works across production, creative ideas, and guest and content support. Scott regularly pulls him into features, which has turned him into the unofficial “certified young person” of the team. He’s a core player in the long-running segment Elder vs. Millennial, where he bravely represents Gen Z while being taught about the cultural milestones everyone older than him just assumes are common knowledge. His lack of lived experience before the mid-2000s has become an ongoing theme.

Elder vs. Millennial Highlights
Emilio has gifted the show with some of its best generational-gap moments, including:

  • Never having heard of comedian Stu Francis and his legendary catchphrase, “Oh, I could crush a grape”.

  • Admitting he didn’t know what sandwich spread was, despite it being a lunchbox classic for kids in the 80s.

  • Not using a wallet, only taking one out if he thinks he might be ID’d.

  • Thinking the former supermarket Somerfield was the setting for Coronation Street, and having no clue what Gateway was.

  • Being described as so young that he “was still breastfeeding when Phil Mitchell got shot” and is somehow younger than the character Stuart Little.

  • Casually dropping Gen Z slang off-air, like “slay bro”, “what’s the tea”, and “no cap”, much to the delight and utter confusion of Scott.

Personal Life
Emilio recently married his “lovely Ewan”, an optometrist and bell ringer. The day was described as the absolute best, overflowing with love, and included a strong turnout from his Italian family, who celebrated in full force.

🎚️ Hannah Fletcher – Assistant Producer

Another key assistant producer helping keep the show running day-to-day. Works across planning, content development, and the mechanics that keep the Breakfast Show smooth.

🎚️ Georgia Frampton – Assistant Producer

Part of the assistant producer team who help craft segments, support Scott on-air, and manage the moving parts of a live daily programme.

📱🎥 Jamie Glover – Senior Producer (Social & Visual Output)

Jamie oversees everything visual and social for the Scott Mills Breakfast Show. That includes:

  • Crafting the show’s social media strategy

  • Leading on short-form video and viral moments

  • Handling the visual identity of the show across platforms

He essentially ensures the show has a life beyond the radio and that Scott’s personality lands just as well on video as it does on air.

🎛️ Liam Hadley – Producer

Liam has a background in station sound imaging across Radio 1, Radio 2 and 6Music. He contributes to the sound design, imaging, and creative production elements that give the show its sonic personality.

🎛️ Fiona Day – Producer

Another producer associated with the show, involved in planning, editorial decisions, guest booking, and helping run the daily output.
